The Nest at Down Farm

The Nest and Down Farm

The Nest is an exquisitely handcrafted two storey wooden cabin, nestled into the hillside on Down Farm.  It is surrounded by trees and overlooks the breathtaking Exe Valley. Tucked away in its own secluded corner of Down Farm, The Nest offers uninterrupted views and complete tranquility away from the busyness of ordinary life.

The Nest was created for those seeking a peaceful escape to also experience the magic of Down Farm.  Built using sustainable timber and finished with locally sourced, artisan touches, a warm, peaceful cabin, full of character awaits, ready for you to unwind.

Rewilding at Down Farm

Down Farm is a 12 acre small holding and the family home of Claire, Brad and their three children.  The Nest is part of an ongoing project at the farm to offer spaces and experiences for guests to reconnect with nature without compromising on the home comforts.

There is rewilding project under way at Down Farm after being grazed by sheep and horses for decades.  Over 2,000 trees have been planted over the last 10 years alongside wild flower seeds and now we are starting to see wildlife reclaim the land. From deer to hares, butterflies and buzzards, the land at Down Farm is teeming with wildlife.

Down Farm house is a short distance from The Nest and the family are on hand  to make sure you have a peaceful and comfortable stay. Whether you need local tips or a top-up of firewood, they will happily help but are mindful of giving guests space to be left in peace.

Yoga Tuition

Claire is a certified yoga instructor and offers personalized yoga sessions onsite, held outdoors among the trees or in the fields. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, these tailored classes help you fully unwind, ground yourself in nature, and reconnect with your body in a peaceful, supportive environment.

Step inside The Nest and you are greeted by the open-plan living area that invites you to unwind and savour the view. A cosy built-in bench and soft sofa are perfect for curling up with a book by the log burner, sharing a bottle of wine, or watching the weather roll across the valley. Glass doors lead out to a private balcony, where you can sip morning coffee in your dressing gown as the mist lifts over the trees.

The kitchen area is fully equipped with everything you need to cook, nourish, and enjoy evenings in. Just off the living room, you’ll find a charming bunk room and a beautifully clad shower room with underfloor heating and a heated towel rail — the perfect touch of comfort after a walk in the woods or a dip in the hot tub.

Wander downstairs to the master bedroom, a tranquil haven tucked beneath the treetops. The centrepiece is a luxurious king-size bed, dressed in soft linens to ensure a restful night’s sleep.

But the true magic of this room lies in the huge round window — a breathtaking, natural picture frame that opens onto the valley beyond. Wake slowly as the light pours in, and watch the wind move through the new woodland and wildflower meadow below.  If you’re lucky, you might just see a deer or hare scamper past the window!

The Nest’s private deck is the perfect place to sit with a blanket and a mug of tea in the morning or a glass of wine at sunset. Rocking chairs invite you to sway and dream, while the festoon-lit seating area is made for long, lingering evenings under the stars.

There’s a fire pit with a grill for cooking over flames — perhaps a late breakfast or a slow dinner beside the crackle of wood — and a short path leads you to the jewel in the crown: your own private, wood-fired hot tub.

Tucked in its own quiet spot and surrounded by nature, it’s the ultimate place to soak, stargaze, and simply be.
